Elly versus remembering where other people were.

One of the more depressing facts of life about dealing with the elderly is that they tend to lose sight of who other people have met and where other people have been. I think that we've all had a phone call where we have to absorb angry accusations that we're calling the other person senile or stupid when we have to tell her (it's usually always an aunt or mother or grandmother that we have to correct) that no, we've never actually met this person she knows and no, we didn't attend the gathering she only thought we were at.

The reason that I mention this is that John might have foreseen this sad eventuality and taken steps to minimize the damage. As I've said before, I sometimes think that he had to sit Mike and Liz down and explain that he wouldn't be around forever and that their mother never bothered learning how to live on her own so they'd have to bite the bullet and live within half an hours' walk of her to make sure she didn't accidentally kill herself prematurely. By making sure that they're always in her field of vision, John could rest in pieces knowing that at least two of his children could avoid angry screeching about where they were and who they know. As for April, she's totally screwed because someone has to be a victim for the good of society.
