Ignorance is the only option, Part Twelve: The protective stupidity factor.

As I said yesterday, Mike and Liz share a sort of protective blindness to their own stupid actions that takes the form of denying that they ever really had strong feelings for whatever person managed to wriggle through their fingers. Just as Elly's response to rejection was to scratch her head and assume that she had talked herself into believing she was in love with Colin the paperboy when she didn't know what love was, her children seem to all share this need to protect themselves from feeling like idiots who are responsible for the mess they make by pleading temporary insanity.

The reason I mention this is that it's obvious that April herself was not immune to this letting herself off the hook, not if all her garbage about Gerald committing treason and joining Becky into declaring war on her is any indication. It's not that Gerald wants to make bit of a name for himself without having to run things by a jealous little girl who can't handle not being in charge, it's that said deluded goofola went nuts and talked herself into thinking she was in love with someone who wants to stand there and laugh while a cruel enemy crushes her with her star power.
