On tokens and ten years.

As we know, it's been pretty much a decade since Warren hissed in fear like a vampire in a Republic serial because Liz waved her engagement ring under his nose. Ten years have passed since the most lackluster proposal ever. Ten years since Deanna pulled the Miracle Dress out of the crawl space. This also means that it's been ten years of Anthony having to cope with the fact that he didn't come close to marrying the person he thought Liz was.

The reason that I mention this is that most people assume that he'd either go sniffing around his first wife again or become a failed adulterer staying loyal by default or something. This, I think, is because they tend to ignore the broader implications of his being said to be the second coming of Trash Bag Johnny. I should think that Anthony's actual coping mechanism for dealing with the fact that child-woman Liz of the volatile moods, country-wide ass and baffling ignorance isn't within a zillion miles of being the gracious, graceful figure of his wet dreams is to ignore any fact that doesn't mesh with his fantasy. It's how John copes with the fact that Elly finds the domestic crap she has to wade through a horrible burden so it's something Anthony can do.
