Turning the tap-dance into her crusade.

The irritating thing about the Martha situation is that Elly handles it in much the same way as she handles her one-sided rivalry with Mira Sobinski. The image I have of their interactions is Mira standing around barking the same orders Elly herself might give if she had the courage, Elly meekly following along and then sticking her tongue out at the Pushy Ethnic when her back is turned. Elly and the Pattersons call that "grace under pressure". I call it being cowardly, deceitful and infantile.

This is because Elly's overblown fear of actually confronting someone because she thinks that everyone acts like her and stores up resentments until they explode in rage and end up teaching people nothing that isn't "Don't poke a sleeping bear" means that the people she hates probably have the idea that Elly likes them more than she actually does. I'm sure that Mira tells her friends that she and her daughter's mother in law get along well and that to this day, Martha has no idea that she's still seen as some floozy trying to drag an innocent into the mud.

The odd thing about the whole business about the Circle of Life bird's nest is that we have to deal with an annoying trend that makes the Pattersons…

  • The eternal quest for maturity.

As you will recall, one of the things that really made a mess of Mike's romantic entanglements is his inflated self-image. As what I called Foob Fact…
