Rube/Harridan: Meet Those Who Do Not Trust The Situation.

In three months' time, we're about to see an arc that's sort of an answer to Exile Farm: Elly, Liz and April going off to Vancouver so that Marian can bond with her granddaughter. You will notice a conspicuous absence in the away team: John. The reason he stays home is to prevent Mike from doing an ill-defined something. As it would later be when John had one of his employees stand over Liz and April when he and Elly didn't want two star-struck kids getting in over their heads, the phrase he used is "It's not that we don't trust you, it's that we don't trust the situation."

Now, he might be right not to trust the kids with the house but he and Elly tend to be right for the wrong reasons. John and Elly assume that left to their own devices, the kids would be sitcom horror monster characters like Ferris Bueller on his day off. What they'd really be like is the Mike who took a nap once and came down to a flooded basement because he's too dim and lazy to do anything that isn't standing around watching the house fall down around him.
