Meet The Unfortunate Implication Man

Having to look back at the Very Special Thing we're about to wade through, the most distressing thing is not the false happy ending we're about to see. The most distressing thing is how Lynn chose to frame the whole 'don't make waves/you can never really know anyone' subtext that informed Mike's inaction. A smarter person would have the person saying something along the lines of 'tell me what you can do about something that won't make things worse' but that isn't Lynn. She has Brian make an incoherent speech about how you just have to stay healthy and survive your own childhood because other people's problems aren't your own.

This tends to suggest to howtheduck that he wants Mike to not act in Gordon's defense because no one ever stood up for him. His parents fret because he's kind of ambivalent about dating. He decided that moving to a foreign country where he'll spend his life being regarded as a curiosity at best was preferable to continuing to live anywhere near his family. This tells me that whatever Keith and Carol are up to, it's not something pleasant or smart if that's how he's going to react. This appears to be lost on Lynn because she really doesn't think things through too well because all we get out of her is vaguely racist nonsense about complex musical languages he 'should' know how to speak.

  • The competence conundrum.

The VERY interesting thing about watching Mike stand there and get lectured about how, despite his unshaking and unshakable belief otherwise, people…

  • The sad miracle of the inflammation of the brain.

The odd thing about the whole business about the Circle of Life bird's nest is that we have to deal with an annoying trend that makes the Pattersons…

  • The eternal quest for maturity.

As you will recall, one of the things that really made a mess of Mike's romantic entanglements is his inflated self-image. As what I called Foob Fact…
