The lust for status and other Fooby virtues.

In his blog today, howtheduck raised an excellent point: Elly doesn't really interact with her grandchildren that much at all. It's as if she cannot and will not be bothered with these loud half-people that Mike and Deanna produced. His line of argument was that Françoise's day-to-day life would be unaffected because Elly would be as close to her as she is to the Patterspawn. This brings me to a beloved point of mine; as I love to keep saying, the Pattersons care more about being something than dealing with the people who back up their exalted status. Elly's wanting the prestige grandchildren bring while at the same time not having the least bit to do is an extension of her wanting babies but not children. What is more, she has a daughter-in-law who's the same way and will soon have a son-in-law who wanted a wedding but not a wife.
