Pattersons + Non Sequiturs = Fubar.

In the strip for 19 April 2008, Gerald said he wanted to follow his dreams to which April responded she'd rather lead. She thought she'd delivered a witty comeback but it was just another baffling non-sequitur. She may be the most likable Patterson but she cannot avoid the family tendency to spout things that don't make any sense. Time and time again, we see one of them staring over a shoulder at the recipient of yet another clanger convinced that they'd stunned him or her into silence with his or (mostly) her brilliance, little realizing that the person is trying to figure out what s/he said. This is because the Pattersons love to talk but are too mentally lazy to think about what they're saying. Since they're too invested into trying to sound witty to make sense and don't really know the meaning of half of the words they're using, they come across as a family of smug, huffy boneheads.
