Sibling Revilery: Michael and Elizabeth.

I'd like to look a little further into the Noble Scribe given his current centrality to the strip. One thing I've noticed in this strip is the poisonous relationship Michael has with his sister. From the get go, he's either seen actively tormenting her, making light of her feelings or subtly suggesting that she's an unwanted interloper who should disappear. Is he sorry for it? No, he is not. Why should he be, since no-one ever thinks to call him on it. All Elly does is shrug, mutter 'boys will be boys' and tell Elizabeth not to make so much noise. I'll go a little further into THAT line of thinking later, but right now, back to Mutton-head. The key to understanding him is that he isn't exactly burdened with intellect or insight. Somewhere in that pile of rancid manure he calls a brain is a sullen little boy who wants his parents to stop hovering over that wailing lump in pink and worship his every stupid move, like they're supposed to. Since he's a clueless twit, he never REALLY understood, even today, people see him as something of a spoiled brat who never got over having a kid sister. The sad thing is that this mess thinks he's got the older brother thing nailed scientific.
