Failure to do the research: a Foob tradition.

The current series of gag-a-day strips about John's dental practice highlight something that always used to bother me; Ol'Doc Patterson's office looked almost nothing like one you'd see in the real world. What we saw was closer to Lynn's idea of what it should look like even though she knew better, having had access to one for quite some time. This was the first instance of her tendency to let her idea of what things should look like take precedence over what they did. For all her vaunted research, Lynn isn't going to let a silly thing like a fact get in the way of what she "knows" to be true.
