Mike/Weed Slash: an explanation......

As we've seen, Lynn's inability to see things from any perspective other than a middle-aged lady has grown over the years. This has, as I've said, affected how she depicts male characters. The same artist who produced natural-sounding scenes of friendship between men has lost touch with the part of her that understood the masculine psyche. The most glaring example of that is the friendship between Mike Patterson and Josef "Weed" Weeder. Her tin ear for dialogue and tendency to assign to everyone in sight the mental peculiarities of women in their fifties has subverted her intent to show us two guys who spent their University years engaged in macho pursuits. They instead take on, without her realizing it, the coloration of two men in a vaguely homosexual relationship. This is because, as we know, she seems to have rid herself of any male staffer who'd tell her "They wouldn't do that". Not because of their gender, to be sure. Knowing how she likes to hear her opinion repeated back to her, because of being told she was wrong. Whatever the cause, she's let her opinion of How Things Work take precedence over credibility with a really messy consequence.
