The last and the first

Back when we'd thought the hybrid had begun, Mike spent a couple of weeks telling Meredith and Robin about Grandma Marian and how great it was that she let him do things. Mike's memories of his grandmother are, of course, colored by the fact that she wasn't a part of his daily life. His children do not have grandparents that remote so they'd probably have a different story to tell their own kids. Instead of happy stories about a loving, kindly woman who made them feel good about themselves, they'd have to find some way of finding something good about a frustrated, neglectful, greedy, ill-tempered hysteric who flew off the handle at the slightest provocation. Trying to explain a recluse who wouldn't let them play with his toys would be no fun either. My guess is that they'd focus on the rare quiet, happy times and ignore the rest. This would have the effect of making a childhood made turbulent by their insane family seem bland and quiet.
