The dictatorship of boredom.

As we all know, the real source of the strip's appeal to most of Kool-Aid Nation is its reassuring dullness. Sure, they may talk about its being 'their' soap opera in an effort to make it sound more exciting but when you consider that network soaps are also bastions of the familiar, they reveal without intending to how bland and homogenized Foob really is. The new format seems to me to be right up their street. So far it's as if Lynn has been telling them "Remember when your kids were small? They wanted a dog but you got them a fish to tide them over until you were ready for a puppy? Remember that?" in a blandly reassuring voice. When Farley does arrive, they'll be able to pig out on the innocuously comforting.
