Trusting in fate and drawing wrong conclusions......

As you all know, Liz pretty much wrecked her life because she believed that she wasn't supposed to act on her own behalf. Many was the time she stated that if things were meant to be that they'd happen without her having to do anything at all. This is because she grew up listening to advice from her ignorant idiot mother. Elly firmly believes that looking for a boyfriend will only lead to frustration and unhappiness and that Mister Right will appear when he appears. This is because John appeared out of the blue. Since she wound up with a doctor without having to do anything, she thinks that inaction is the preferred course. Given that she was in an environment where she couldn't not have found someone, that seems a slightly less-than-tenable argument. Given that everyone else isn't an undergrad, it becomes nonsense. When you consider that she married the first man to date her more than once her argument goes from 'specious' to 'one hundred percent bullcrap'.
