The adhesion factor......

Here's something I've really started to notice about the older material now that debjyn pointed it out to me; you almost always see children clinging to their parents in fear presented as a good and healthy thing. This adhesiveness seems off to me because it doesn't match my experience. Despite my being a bachelor, I know that 99 and 44/100% of children are not like that; most of the time, a young mother's time is spent trying to keep up with her child as she happily explores her new world. Contrast this with Mike and Liz clinging to Elly because they fear learning new things and how curiosity almost killed the Martian. This reminds me that Lynn views security as the be-all and end-all of existence; her children played it so safe, they never really left Mother's All-Encompassing Embrace. It also tells me that they won't be able to cope when she finally dies; they won't have the emotional detachment needed.
