Irritation versus love

It never really seems to take all that long before Elly falls out of love with a thing she's madly in love with. A case in point is, of course, Farley. In the first few days, she was as madly in love with him as the rest of the family and was willing to put up with minor inconveniences. Unfortunately, the part of her that collects injustices was only suppressed, not defeated. This meant that in a fairly short time he became another source of irritation to a soul condemned to see the world as arrayed against her. To be certain, there were moments of calm wherein she realized that she missed out on a lot of happiness because she was too damned arrogant and selfish to laugh things off but they never lasted. No sooner did this though occur to her than some non-event would cause her to moan or scream "Why MEEEE???", as if she were the only person in the world to have to housebreak a dog. In her impatient mind, it's 'unfair' that puppies don't come pre-trained right out of the womb. That way, she could get the attention she craves without the work she hates.
