Dog versus sister: Mike's choice.

In the reprint that appeared on 7 November 2008, Mike made a not-so-funny joke about not knowing whether he liked Farley or Lizzie better. The punchline, of course, was that he thought a cute little puppy was better company than a whiny little girl whose needs served as a brake on his own need to be who he was. Given Lynn's love of the saccharine, we could eventually expect to see a syrupy mess that has him declare that he loves them equally. Too bad that such slop is unjustfied. After having seen the strip I can say right off that Farley is Liz's superior in every way. He, for instance, never sat in his room whining about how nobody liked him while refusing to see that being a gloomy wet blanket was a turn off. He didn't cling to Elly's ankle and whine about being abandoned. He escaped from the Pattermanse at every opportunity. He never decided that personal growth was bad and married a complete goober. He did the best he could with his limited mind and even died better than Liz will. This is why Everybody Loves Farley.
