Sibling rivalry in Retconland....

As far back as I can remember, Mike has always resented Lizzie's presence. Even up to the end of days, there was always a streak of hostility within him that prevented him from identifying with her emotionally. Thanks to the new-run format, we can get a handle on what caused him to hate Lizzie: Elly's stupidity. Quite simply, she never shut up about how the baby had to be treated better than he was. A non-stop diet of this coupled with her refusing him things his peers were able to get because of the baby (accompanied with hot and cold running chattering about how since he had a baby sister, he couldn't have this or do that) soon convinced him that Lizzie was not only put on this Earth to make his life worse, she got a kick out of it. A five-year-old (or a woman with the mental age of five) isn't going to be able to see that a toddler can't associate cause with effect. She might know that the loud thing that ran around and yelled at her got yelled at by the bigger thing that picked her up without knowing she was the cause and that might make her smile but that would be it.
