Ned Tanner: Squick Inducing Doll of Mystery

In a recently-rediscovered article from 2003, the author's main focus was on the baffling emphasis on Ned Tanner, the anatomically correct rubber doll Lynn promotes on her site. The reason that the author was confused was Lynn's belief that teenagers would love to buy the horrible-looking thing; she was and is convinced that his fixed stare, hideous rictus grin and rubbery penis would be something that the average young person would want to have. This is, of course, a reminder that Lynn is out of touch with what young people want; she assumes that since kids are more open about things than they were in the constipated world she grew up in, they'd want something as revolting as Ned. Her breezy misapprehension that the world is a non-stop orgy that they won't invite her to isn't the only factor, though. There's also her juvenile (if not infantile) sense of humor to take into consideration. This is a woman who thinks bulbous noses, fiddly chin hairs on suburban matrons and spitting watermelon seeds on the backs of sunbathers are all actually funny. Most people left thinking all that stuff was funny behind when they turned ten at the latest; she didn't so we're stuck with body function gags and PVC homunculi that come with your choice of boxer shorts.
