Ted McAulay in Retconland......

It seems to me that Phil's story can pretty much write itself now; he, as a professional musician, will rebuff Connie's advances in the name of a spurious freedom only to feel the pull of the One True Path to Happiness. By that time, though, she will make some embarrassingly confusing and blame-deflecting speech about how he had his chance but blew it because he loved Music more than her; this, of course, will be her indication that she found a new person to be fixated on: Doctor Ted. I believe the appropriate phrase here would either be "out of the frying pan and into the fire" or "six of one, half a dozen of the other". This is because Ted is an illustration of what she believes a man playing the field acts like. Since she has no real handle on the male psyche, he's a caricature at best and an act of libel against a whole gender at worst. We can thus look forward in the fullness of time to see the pathetic momma's boy let a good thing slip away while spouting dialogue that makes him look like either he goes around trying to shag house pets or a distorted version of Norman Bates.
