The debraining of Elly......

In the original version of history Elly wasn't as stupid as she is now. She, for instance, would have been able to maneuver a five year old boy into telling her what she wanted to know with ease and was able to match her presumptuous jackass husband zinger for zinger. This does not obtain in the new understanding of events. Not only is New-Run Elly so dumb that she is easily outwitted by a kindergarten student, her only response to her husband's unbelievably hateful and demeaning remarks is confusion. This leads me to my question: why did Lynn think that Elly needs to be so stupid? It isn't especially appealing to watch people take advantage of a huffy nitwit so she's taken yet another thing away fromwhat made the strip readable. I don't know about you but I can't see myself cheering on or sympathizing with a self-destructive cretin.
