The immaturity fetish.

As has been noted, Connie's behavior as regards Phil is not that of a professional, university-educated woman in her early thirties. The fixation on the man to the exclusion of all other priorities, the desperate need to believe that his oh-so-unwilling person is the solution to all her perceived problems, the willingness to reinvent herself to become a better girlfriend, the ardor with which she pursues the man and the fact that she lives and dies by his opinion are behavioral patterns one would expect of a sheltered middle-school student experiencing her first really passionate crush. If this seems at all familiar, it is, of course, the exact same set of complaints we made about how immature and desperate Elizabeth acted before the Fauxposal. Lynn seems incapable of writing a romance between two adults who have a respect for each others' feelings, it would seem. You usually end up looking at a Mike or Anthony strong-arming a child-woman into a loveless sham of a marriage.
