Connie's self-defeating thinking

As we've seen, Connie's need to have a man at any cost has taken a turn from the annoying to the horrifying. She's at the point where she no longer cares about who it is she dates as long as she does date. She's like Candace's mother who takes the side of her loathsome dick boyfriend whenever her daughter tries to tell him that he's hitting on her. Both women would prefer a deviant like that to nothing, no matter what the cost is. Connie could end up with an abuser or pedophile and did end up with a homophobic ignoramus who let her drive away his children. All this because they thought a bad man was better than nothing. If Elly were any sort of a friend, she should have pointed out that Connie should seriously consider trying nothing for the sake of herself and her son. Sadly, Elly is not a good friend at all. Not only does she not care how crazy her friend is, she also has no clear interest in seeing that Lawrence is safe.
