Now the thing is that Mike and Liz are living the life Lynn wishes her children would live. This seemed to give her some comfort for a while by at least having the family that does not exist in the real world on her pages. She could at least then in some way have the fantasy family she dreamed of growing up stupid under the Red Ensign. She allowed the more realistic versions of her kids to sort of drift in the world of singles for a while, like they do in the real world. However, recently she's put Weed in a situation where he'll be forced into living the life his Dad wants him to. I soon expect to see Candace's Mom throw her second husband out and try to become parts of her daughter's life again, while Candace herself talks marriage with her long-time boyfriend. Why does she try to shoe-horn the more realistic version of Aaron and Kate into the Ozzie-and-Harriet mold NOW? Simple; she wants grandchildren before she's either dead or too old to enjoy them. We have seen many examples of her disbelief in active and healthy retirement. She, herself, seems transfixed on the notion that she either won't live to see the 2010's or that she'll end up envying the dead by then. I say this because the retirement plans she gives the media sound to your Gentle Author like the wistful things people say when they're trying to hide a terminal illness from their family. She don't wanna hear about how her friends took piss-poor care of themselves, 'cause she KNOWS better. If she's reasonably active and healthy ten years from now, she'll have no idea what to do with herself because she's got 15 years worth of framing strips in a bank vault someplace.
