I've already covered why I think Michael is a failure as a son, brother, husband, son-in-law (as per my post about Mira), father and writer. I'd guess that, as a boss, he's probably a pathetic wash-up as well. This may SEEM surprising since John was competent enough in his day, but when you consider that Michael picked up on 'appropriate' male behavior due to John's absence, things start to look a lot clearer. Taking a page from the book of Elly, he seems to regard being asked to make a decision on ANYTHING as a cruel burden. He either sweats minor details for days until making a foolish choice to end the torture or passes the buck to a flunky. Not only do the people at Portrait have to deal with an empty suit who's guessing his way through life, the gutless nit is also insufferably vain. I'd imagine his 'wonderful team' is weighed down by time-servers and crooks who survive by blowing sweet, sweet smoke up Boy Genius's ass. Fortunately for the magazine, the publisher found the perfect way to unseat the dodo; too bad the magazine will probably collapse from his stupidity anyway.
