It's always sort of bothered me that Eva never cut April too much slack when she complained about her life. I always got the distinct impression that she, Duncan and Luis thought the Martian was making a big deal over nothing. This is, of course, because they don't know what they're talking about. They only get the most cursory glance of daily life in the Patterson household and, at first blush, the Foobs look like a typical, nice, normal family. Inattentive types like the Smackdown Brigade don't spend their days living with the sort of low-key nastiness that April has to contend with on a daily basis. Certainly as visible minorities, they deal with external pressures April is unaware of that they feel they must remind her of but they come from loving families that communicate with and respect each other. If they knew what April's life was really like, they wouldn't be so quick to snap at her for exaggerating.
