The thing that bothers me most about the new phase of the strip is the same thing that bothers everyone else: Lynn's assumption that the Pattersons' past needs to be altered to suit her current viewpoint. It's a bad sign when an author behaves as if the work she spent so much time on was a first draft that had to be rewritten. It not only reveals that she doesn't have the courage to stand behind her work, it shows a measure of disrespect to her fans. It's as if she's saying that the story they grew to love doesn't matter because she changed her mind about what they valued. It would do less damage to common sense and common decency if she were to tell us that she was going to show us the adventures of the Patterson family of an alternate universe wherein the Core Four were born twenty-seven years later than the ones whose story had just wrapped up. Sadly, Lynn is too obsessed with "fixing" something that wasn't broken to conceive of "Ultimate Foob."
