I've noticed something interesting about the strips that were published on 11 and 13 October 2008: the later strip has got to have happened before the earlier. The only way things make sense is John going into near hysterics about Marie's departure and Ted's exasperation at finding out he isn't talking about Elly followed by their going to the coffee shop and wondering at the strange ways of women. Why did Lynn feel the need to have effect proceed cause? Because the new-run she wrote for Saturday had a punchline that made the following confusing. We should have seen a departing John thought-bubbling 'Women!' while Jean thought-bubbled 'Men!' That way, his meeting with Ted wouldn't have us wondering about the sequences of events. As it stands, we have a mildy-jarring set-up for a week of Rod getting kicked in the crotch by proxy. Whether it's right for her to use the strip as a means of berating her ex is open to debate. What isn't is that if she must do so, she should do so properly.
