One of the upcoming Sunday strips has Elly going into something of a panic when Mike tells her that he and Lizzie were playing hide and seek and he'd lost track of her. The reason that I mention this is that it seems to me that it highlights a problem area I see with Elly. It might just be my need to see a mental defect where none exists but it looks to me as if when she definitely knows where her children are or where they're going to be, Elly is a lot more anxious than when all she can say about them is that they're somewhere doing something. This confuses me because it seems to me that she's got it all backwards. I know that saying so is not going to make me popular with Kool-Aid Nation but the part of me that wants Elly to be more anxious about what she doesn't know for sure than what is known remembers something they don't want to face. After all, April God-damned near drowned because Elly thought that she was somewhere doing something and not underfoot and thus destroying Mommy's life by demanding attention she cannot spare.
