Snarky Candiru2

The literacy hurdle.

Of course, the real problem with Elly's Very Clever Plan Indeed to increase her children's word power is not that she's mostly doing it for a self-serving reason. Most of what Elly does as a parent is to avoid censure for being negligent so it's nothing new to see her just spring something stupid on her kids in the belief that being seen to shove 'help' their unwilling throats will lead to the impossibility of one day being thanked to her level of satisfaction.

The real problem is that it seems to me that it's far too late to do so. The time to make them into committed readers was years ago when they were younger. Sadly, she was not only too blasted busy moaning to Connie that her children were monsters who wanted to drain her substance because they hated her freedom owing to their need for attention, she tends to overreact brainlessly to the 'mistreatment' of a book as a physical object and thus tends to discourage her fumble-fingered kids access thereto. John might tell her to not mind dog-eared books because at least the little nippers are reading but Elly 'knows' better and thus has produced people who don't read for pleasure.
