Sometimes a clean floor is just a clean floor……

As you know, Elly has always been upset that her family doesn’t help out much with the housework unless she begs, pleads and threatens. John especially feels the brunt of Elly’s ire because he’s allegedly doing less than she thinks he should as a means of asserting dominance. There’s only one problem with her argument: she gives her family no incentive to do things on their own initiative. I’ve already mentioned that she likes to have things done a certain way and will criticize those who fail to do it as she would harshly before grousing about having to re-do things the right way. What I should have also mentioned is her refusal to be grateful for people who volunteer. Either someone is doing something nice because they want something from her or they’re questioning her abilities as a wife and mother; she will not allow herself to think that someone is doing something because it’s the right thing to do. After a few years of passive-aggressive nonsense like that under their belts, it’s no wonder that they don’t help her out.
