Sibling distance syndrome.

As you may or may not know, the adult characters, despite having siblings, might be taken to be only children. We, for instance, have:

- the Elly/Phil dynamic where he lives in Montreal, she in Milborough they do not speak to each other unless it's an emergency.

- Deanna's sister who hasn't come into contact with her since the Big Fat Fake Wedding.

- John's siblings who haven't appeared since then either.

- Connie's non-relationship with her five older sisters.

and so on and so forth. While it's true that for a lot of us we aren't as close to our siblings as we were when we were young, Lynn takes that to an absurd extreme. This is because she seems to regard it not as a mildly depressing fact of life but as the best thing ever. Elly (and those like her) regards having someone who knows her past as a liability; that way lies bullshit being called.
