Lust: The elephant in the living room.

It might not seem at first glance that the Pattersons are too much motivated by lust. On the surface, they seem kind of prudish. Let's not forget, however, what DRIVES the vice crusader: the daffy notion that the world is a non-stop orgy. People like Elly are bent out of shape that they aren't invited to the infinite gang bang they think is going on around them, so they want to put a stop to it. Lust isn't just about sex, either; the focus is turning a fellow human being into an object. Notice how she and her family always define other people in terms of what they can do for them? Do the phrase "My son, the writer" or "my daughter, the teacher" ring a bell? She doesn't give a damn about who they REALLY are,; they only exist to make her feel better about herself.
