The mystery of Lizzie's stroller......

As we all know, Lynn is in love with the image of a small child clinging to his or her parent as if he or she were an overall-clad remora. The reason that it's so off=putting is that not only does it make the child an actual physical burden, it's neither necessary or normal. Speaking from personal experience alone I know that the only time I see a mother hold a child like that is when she's on a crowded bus with the stroller folded up in order to save space. The rest of the time, the child is firmly fastened in so as to spare both s/he and his or her mother the trauma of separation. What is more, one can readily store all the baby's needs in the pram. This logic, sadly, seems lost on Elly; we rarely, if ever, see her with a stroller because she prefers to carry Lizzie. The primary reason is that she likes to make things harder than they need be; the secondary is, of course, her lack of aptitude with machines and lack of patience with same. I can readily imagine her trying and failing to handle a stroller in a way that would make me wish to shoot her dead to spare her having to live with the embarrassment. Since she's incompetent and full of rage, Lizzie has to be unsafe.
