The food issue......

One thing that you can't ignore about the strip is the unhealthy emphasis places on food. The Pattersons, as has long been noted, eat in a disgusting manner; not only do they start eating their meals before they cool properly, the spittle flies as huge they shove huge wads of food into their mouths and distend their cheeks. Eating like that reminds me of what people with eating disorders are supposed to do; so does the panic that ONE DOUGHNUT IN THE FRIDGE inspires. I don't actually know if, like Cathy Guisewite, Lynn suffers from some sort of unhealthy obsession with food and thinness; what I do know is that I suspect that she might.
