The no-solution solution......

As I've mentioned before, one of the things that Elly hates the most is to have one of her little dilemmas cut off at the pass. The current arc wherein eating that last doughnut is a major crisis that someone averted can, of course, be guaranteed to totally make her blow a gasket because she doesn't want her problems to be solved. She's more emotionally invested in the petty dilemmas and non-events that she torments herself with than her family because she thinks that suffering over nothing makes her big and important. According to her teenaged brain a solved problem means that the solver doesn't take her seriously so John can stick his advice where the sun don't shine.
