As you know, one of the more baffling of the adult Michael's personality quirks is an abiding hatred of Elvis Presley. It only came up in the strip once or twice but it has been definitely established that he is left utterly cold by the Man from Memphis and his legacy. It's not hard to see why that might be given his resentful and vengeful nature and the fact that Elvis passed on when our boy was wondering if he liked his puppy or kid sister better; I'll demonstrate what I mean by updating the topical reference and referring to the non-stop media coverage of the death of Michael Jackson. Said animosity would form in the following manner:
- He'd be forced to listen to coverage that to his ears would sound like "He-is-dead-He-is-dead-OOOOOOHHHHHHH-He-i
s-dead-He-is-dead-He-is-dead-OOOOOOOOHHH HHHHH..."and be shushed when he wants to watch something that isn't all death all the time.
- Whenever he wants to talk about something he wants to talk about, he gets shushed and told not to interrupt the fascinating talking about some guy he doesn't know who died.
- Given how young he is, he assumes that they love the dead man more than they love him.
- Years later, he forgets why he hates Wacko Jacko but he knows he can't stand hearing about him.
The last part also explains why his relationship with Liz is still somewhat frosty; he's forgotten that he was punished because Elly stupidly misinterpreted his intentions but he does know that Sistwirp has always been a thorn in his side.
