Elly versus Ted: a study in contempt.....

It should come as no real shock that Elly would detest a man like Doctor Ted. Ted, you see, has the unforgivable habit of having opinions that contradict her own and expressing them; what's more, he actively mocks her pretensions to be a whole host of things she isn't, tells John to stand up for himself and seems to have no real respect for the sanctity of her marriage. Since he doesn't bend down and kiss her fat rump like everyone else, he's a rotten influence she must banish from John's life; she succeeds but, in doing so, misses the bigger picture. The problem, as I see it, is that John is equally disrespectful of women, if not more so, but simply learns to hide it better over the years; since she never does anything to alter his thinking that has any chance of success, she ends up cutting a hypocirte off from more honest idiots.
