You fail child psychology forever......

As we've seen, Lynn seems to not have realized that Mike's behavior towards Deanna is in any way, shape or form inappropriate. To our eyes, the prospect of a six-year old boy acting like a sixth-grader with a sloppy, embarrassing crush on one of his classmates is not only off-putting, it flies in the face of what we know about how childrens' minds develop. A boy Michael's age wouldn't think of the girl in the pink dress as his future wife no matter how cute Lynn believes that to be; it's of a piece with her having Deanna lecture her seatmate about the housing market in Milborough. Someone who's in Grade Six might be able to wrap her head around why the move fell through but someone who's age six would resort to magical thinking. As I've said before, this is because she doesn't know how children see the world; she assumes that since she thinks along the same lines as she did five years ago that first and sixth-graders see the world the same way.
