The Fire tihis time.

First, an explanation for yesterday's post. I've always been fascinated by the alternate history genre, and would like to take my own stab at it. The fire seems like an ideal point of divergence from the timeline because the Pattersons Redux did everything you're not supposed to do in a fire despite the parents being college-educated. It also occurs to me that, for my purposes, a seventy-five percent fatality rate will serve quite nicely. That being said, I'll start things rolling with a basic outline of the starting situation.

Suburban Apartemnt Fire Kills Three, leaves girl orphaned:
In what fire officials are calling a needless tragedy, an apartment fire in the suburb of New Huddersfield, 20 km northwest of Ontario claimed the lives of a young couple and a two year old boy last night. The blaze started in a waste basket in a downstairs apartment and rapidly consumed the upper apartment. The four-year-old daughter is in hospital undergoing treatment for smoke inhalation and a sprained ankle from climbing down a poorly secured fire escape while the elderly downstairs neighbors are being held for questioning in relation to the incident. The names of the deceased are being withheld until the families can be notified and until arrangements can be made for the surviving child.
