Pub-crawling Elly and the couch-bound Train Man

The problem with the strip that appeared on 14 March 2010 is that it's somewhat out of character for the John we started out with. As we've seen, the John of the reprints is somewhat uncomfortable when being asked to go out drinking with the boys; his idea of paradise seems to be relaxing on the couch with a cold one after a hard day as his family life lulls him to sleep. Even though he has exciting friends to accompany him, he can only get really tanked on a special occasion like New Year's. Elly, on the other hand, likes the idea of going out on the town and can really sock away the suds; her problem is that she doesn't have friends to get bagged with. Since she's caught between the Scylla of fearful homebody Annie and the Charybis of vengeful nutjob Connie, she can only go out and play on rare occasions. Her need to tie one on and her inability to do so as often as she'd like helped to fuel her rage when John did something in character: take her passive-aggressive attempt to get him to stay home at face value.
