Men buy from Future Shop, Women buy from the Gap....

One thing that I've noticed is that Guisewite is easily as reactionary and smug as Lynn Johnston. This manifests itself in a need to constantly invoke the stereotype that men are enthralled by high tech toys while women cannot have enough shoes. The reason that the two idiots need to have their accountant lecture them every April is that they go out of their way to prove it; irving cannot have enough gadgets while Cathy has a closet full of clothing and shoes that she will never wear. The reason is that while Guisewite is filled with self-loathing and thus cannot help but present women in the unflattering light we see, she seems to regard the male mind as a black box and is perversely proud of it. As was mentioned earlier, she tends to either smile an indulgent smile, groan in frustration or roar with rage when Irving acts like a guy. This annoys me personally when she does so when he offers solutions to a problem. In the interests of fairness, however, I will concede the fact that Guisewite seems less about ridding herself of evils that having said evils validated. Just as Elly shrieks in rage when John tries to fix thing, what Cathy hears when Irving barges in with his solutions and his linear logic is that she and her problems aren't being taken seriously.
