Liz the vet: she who kick-started the plot.

As we all know by now, Davis got a lot of mileage out of the "Jon Arbuckle, Roadkill on the Highway of love" thing. The problem with presenting him as so awkward, clueless, luckless and needy is that he started to look too pathetic to be an effective foil for his severely anthropomorphized cat. It was getting to the point that Davis had to either turn Garfield into a Pink-Panther-like ersatz human living in a cartoon world or back-pedal on his declaration that the rip-off of Valse Triste he perpetrated one fine October was simply a stress-based hallucination Garfield was having because he felt bad about the way he treated Jon and Odie; I'd have preferred either to watching how insanely bad Jon's love life was. Imagine my relief when the vet he hit on for years finally started responding to his advances; it's sort of nice to see that he has a chance of a life that doesn't involve his pseudocat and said lasagna-scarfing jerk's fear and hatred of small children.
