Double-A Antagonism....

In one of the earlier strips, the CEO of the week explained Higher Management's official opinion of women and minorities in the work place; women, they opined, should stay home baking cookies and mending socks while minorities frightened them. This represents a problem because the most competent people in the strip are Alice and Asok. Alice's function is to depict how women have to work twice as hard as their male counterparts to be thought of as being half as good; this sort of shabby treatment hasn't exactly done wonders for her sense of humor. If the world were equal, she wouldn't have to wield the Fist of Death nearly as often as she does now; as it stands, PHB gives her a free pass to murder people so as to reduce headcount without his having to make any big decisions. Asok also has to deal with institutionalized biases but has a different problem: he's still got a functioning moral compass. Dilbert used to be the one who objected loudest but he's been so beaten down, he has to outsource his outrage.
