Candi: the supine wonder.

The first thing that you do notice, aside from her pink hair, is that Candi has a powerful need to be thought of as being a nice person. The example that comes most readily to mind is her refusal to participate in a prank war against the woman who did her the favor of stealing her idiot love interest Alex. The fact that it would backfire on them was, while acknowledged, secondary to her need to occupy the moral high ground. Second, she doesn’t seem to as ready to “socialize” as often and as casually as the other people who live in the scholarship house; I should think that Alex was the only person she was “social” with in the hand-jive, roadside sense. Third, the need I mentioned to be thought of as being a good girl blinds her to a defect; I’ve gotten a lot of flak from the people on the forum about the strip but it seems clear that Jon is what can be called a Penis Behind Glass; she doesn’t want to have sex with him ever (despite his hope otherwise) but she does want to have a certain amount of control over his getting (as they used to say) getting his freak on. Fourth, she is finally starting to realize that not everyone in the world is as firm a believer in the redemptive power of a hug as she us. This put her into conflict with Jess who, well, thinks of physical contact as a prelude to violence and, since no amount of hugging would make skirt-chasing naff Alex her boyfriend again or get Linda to apologize for being a messed-up child who doesn’t know what she did to irritate people, has proven slightly less effective than hoped.
