Dogandhippieboy: The two-headed main character.....

Of course it's sort of foolish to talk about Scooby without taking his connection with Shaggy into account; on paper, the relationship is that between owner and pet. In real life, however, it's more as if the two of them are a two-life form hive mind. Fred's tendency to refer to them as Shagandscooby as if they're not really separate life forms tends to emphasize their closeness as, well, people. In the old days, it was the latest iteration of Hanna-Barbera's tendency to have heroes in pairs: one had Yogi and Boo Boo, Fred and Barney, Quick Draw McGraw and Baba Louie, Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole and so on and so forth. Having another paired set of comic characters walking around getting into tandem trouble was, well, standard operating procedure. Sadly, the current show runners had to pander to the fanbase like a bunch of chuckleheads and added in a soupcon of squick to the proceedings; one is left with the feeling that the dog has let his Smithers-like yearnings for the hippie screw his life up. The only saving grace is something that also damns the proceedings: HE is the one to realize that he's been acting like a septic moron and wants to make amends. This leaves Velma stuck as that ultra-ugly, ultra-reactionary male fantasy called the tsundere.
