Further thoughts on thoughtlessness.

The problem, of course, with Elly's belief that everyone in the world is conspiring to deprive her of her voice is that it reminds us of why people don't like listening to her: that pesky inability to see what other people need to hear I referred to earlier. Let's examine her recent conversation with Connie in greater detail. As we know, she started off by predicting the relationship was doomed to failure because Ted and Connie were letting the heat of whatever heat they were in blind them to their incompatible goals in life. When this prediction came to pass, she never really let go of the need to remind Connie how foolish she had been to pursue a relationship with him. I should think that even now, she's still running her mouth about what a simpleton Connie was to let herself fall for Ted. This is because she doesn't really understand John's point about listening; in her mind, what should be happening is that Connie should not only be grateful for the truth, she should apologize for doubting her.
