John: Where he gets his ideas...

Yesterday's post is a reminder of a complaint I've had for a fairly long time; to put it bluntly, John seems to have a lot of strong opinions based on fairly flimsy evidence. As I've said before, he'd rather spout a slogan he's too lazy and stupid to question than do something dangerous such as thinking for himself. Take, for instance, his bleating objection to what ended up happening anyway: Elly giving birth to April at home: rather than admit that an unfamiliar concept had merit, he did what he did whenever his preconceptions were challenged and huffily decided that his wife was trying to do something dangerous and wrong. About the only thing that can be said is that he married his own kind; I have no idea where Elly's fear of motorcycles come from but just saying the word causes the gears in her brain to strip forcing her to spout a bunch of nonsense about the guaranteed safety of a nice, sensible hoversedan. In both cases, a panicky idiot with a poor ability to assess risk started screaming like a banshee because it was easier than thinking. Also in both cases, the emergency that the person thought might happen never did; aside from making John look like a dork, Elly's giving birth at home went reasonably smooth and, well, it wasn't the motorbike that attracted the attention of Howard Erk no matter what Elly might have to say about the matter.
