Strangers in a strange Patterverse

One of the odder Lynnsights had Lynn use a rather awkward and revealing turn of phrase when discussing her own children; what she did was point out that no matter how they resembled someone she’d known her whole life, Aaron and Katie (and by extension, all children everywhere) are essentially strangers who, for some reason, insisted on intruding into her daily life with their baffling demands. Let us mark time on the fact that Lynn doesn’t much seem to like strange people owing to a lack of desire to figure out what they want and see how it affects the strip. The suspicion and lack of curiosity strange people inspire in her seem to explain why it is that none of the characters seem to take the children's concerns too seriously; since Mike (for instance) is a stranger, about the only time he’s worth paying attention to is when he does something to inconvenience Elly. It’s not as if she’s beholden to take his concerns seriously otherwise; to do so would raise him to the status of people she already knows.
