The Barnacle Factor Revisited...

As we've seen, one of the things that Elly finds most annoying is how clingy her children get when she's either busy doing something or when she wants time to herself; the same woman who agonizes over the fact that her children are either never around when she wants to do things or simply unwilling to do so always gets upset when they're all go when she wants to have some 'me' time. The recent treasury has a Lynnsight about her past that might explain it; in it, she talks about how distant, how averse to contact her mother was; you see, after a hard day's work, Mrs Ridgway wanted time to unwind by herself and, well, got it. Since Lynn is unable or unwilling to admit that not every family in the world is exactly like her own, it seems to her that every mother in the world is run ragged by needy, clingy children who want more of her time than she is willing or able to give.
